GUNN IMS COURSES FOR PHYSIOTHERAPISTS

Before applying for courses to become certified as a Gunn IMS practitioner, you will need to verify that you as a Physiotherapist or Physical Therapist are authorized to perform dry needling in your locale.

Workers Compensation Board of BC

UBC GUNN IMS COURSE Prerequisites and Requirements - SUMMARY


1. Copy of your degree

2. Proof of Provincial licensing body of current practice

3. Proof of Malpractice Insurance

4. Four (4) years work experience

5. ONE of the following:

a. Certificate of acupuncture

b. Level 3 Intermediate Diploma of Manual Therapy

c. McMaster University Contemporary Acupuncture Program

A Certified Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation Practitioner (CGIMS) is a physiotherapist (PT) who has been trained through the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Pain, founded by the developer of the IMS technique, Dr. Chan Gunn M.D. and offered through the University of British Columbia. A physiotherapist with CGIMS has at least 4 years clinical musculoskeletal or neuromuscular physiotherapy patient experience as well as either acupuncture certification or Level III of the Intermediate Diploma of Manual Therapy.
